Solid Edge - How to set up your own help server
Solid Edge help, videos, tutorials, and activities are available on a public Siemens web server, and by default, Solid Edge accesses it from that location. However, you may have a need to install the Help Server and associated files on your workstation or on your own server, and then configure Solid Edge to display it from there.
Using a local help server
Locally installed Solid Edge online help
Customers who do not have access to the public internet or do not want to use the Siemens-hosted website can instead host web help on their own local workstation or server.
To use a local help server, we provide Siemens Documentation Installer software that you can install on a workstation or dedicated server, to host the HTML collection.
On the same computer system, you can add any of the supported languages of Solid Edge help, as well as help for other Siemens products you use.
Installing the Siemens Documentation Installer
Installing Solid Edge help on the local network requires these basic steps:
- Install the Siemens Documentation Installer software on the designated host computer or HTML server. You can download this software from Support Center at this location: http://support.sw.siemens.com/en-US/product/266603595.
This sets up a web server to serve documentation which you will install separately, in the next step.
- Install the Solid Edge help content onto this local web server in the selected language.
- A separate installer is available for each language version of help. Visit the Solid Edge product page on Support Center, https://support.sw.siemens.com/en-US/product/246738425. Then select Downloads and set the release for which you want to install help. Click Solid Edge2024, then click Help Collections, and select the language of Help that you want to install.
- If you use help in multiple languages, you can install all languages on the same server. If you use other Siemens products, you can install help for those products following these same steps.
- Within Solid Edge, configure individual clients to access the local help server. On the Helpers tab (Solid Edge Options dialog box), select the Access help from my server (requires you to set up a help server) check box, and then enter the URL of the local help server.
To learn more about this option, review Change to local help in the Solid Edge help collection.
