Solid Edge 2025 - Bend Deduction
With Solid Edge 2025, it is now possible to determine the dimension of the flat pattern by a completely new calculation: « Bend deduction ». All external dimensions, measured as if there were no bends, are first added. Then the chosen deduction value is multiplied by the number of parallel bends and this number is subtracted from the initial sum of cumulated lengths:

Here, the addition of external dimensions « without bends » (see example at the top right of the image with the orange vertices and the 1.3 value) is: 2.148 + 1.768 + 11.5 + 1.768 + 2.148 + 1.3 = 20.632. We get the flat pattern length by subtracting (deduction) the chosen value x the number of bends: 20.632 –0.2 x 5 = 19.632
Important: the deduction value must be less than (Thickness + Bend Radius) x 2

If the chose deduction value needs to be different based on the bending angle, we must use the Excel file Benddeductiontable.xls and enter values for each main bending angle.
NB: The other new method called « Bend allowance » is the same as the old « …TABLE.PZL » formula in which we add the chosen value (allowance) for each bend to the cumulated length of flat plates (measured between bends)
