The 4-tier client connects to the Teamcenter web tier using HTTP protocol or Teamcenter client communication system (TCCS). HTTP was the standard initially, but then the TCCS protocol was created to increase security and combine the different communications channels with the web tier into a centralized network configuration.
The following demonstration will assume this is a basic setup and it will not include any Proxy settings or Kerberos, etc.
In the TEM, these configurations can be found in the 4-tier server settings panel for HTTP and the Configuration and Environments panel for TCCS. Regardless of which protocol you choose, you will still need to configure the FCC parent in the FCC Parent Settings panel. See the picture below for reference.
We begin by configuring the FCC Parents settings. You will need to specify the hostname for the FMS server and the port number. The default port number is 4544.
Now you can click the START button.
Next, since HTTP is the old way, we will concentrate on configuring the 4-tier client with TCCS by selecting Configuration and Environments.
Make sure to select the checkbox.
Make sure to select SHARED. If you select Private, it can cause some issues later on.
Normally, you will not use a forward proxy.
You will need to enter a name for this connection and specify the URL for the web-tier server.
Normally, you will not use a Reverse Proxy, so select the Skip reverse proxy criteria check checkbox. This will allow the client to be faster during login.
Do not select anything in the Kerberos section.
The SSL settings default to Use Internet Explorer Certificate Store. We will leave this at the default setting.
Do not enter anything for the Client Tag Filter.
Now you can click START to let TEM make the changes.
Lastly, if you do look at the 4-Tier Server settings, it will not have the same info you just provided. This is okay because we are not using this protocol(HTTP).
With all this, you now should be able to open the Teamcenter Rich Client and log in.
